​Where to Eat in Block Island, Rhode Island

Twelve miles off Rhode Island’s southern shoreline sits Block Island, a charming island community eagerly awaiting your arrival.

Arrive by ferry (departing from Point Judith on the mainland) and spot fishermen heading out to sea during your journey. Stroll through Old Harbor, where you’ll find shops and restaurants worthy of the ferry trip. If you feel like investigating the island further, rent a moped or bicycle and reach the many beaches and dramatic sea cliffs.

Beyond the coast, the Block Island Nature Conservancy operates a large trail system on the island, offering hiking and walking paths. Originally opened by Richard Hodge in the 1940s, Dead-Eye Dick’s has served the Block Island community for generations. After changing ownership several times over the years, the iconic location was completely renovated in 2009 and restored to its former glory. Dead Eye’s serves celebrated seafood dishes, including their famous lobster and swordfish. With indoor and outdoor dining, a sprawling back lawn with fire pits, and a harbor view, it’s hard to beat Dead Eye’s for an evening cocktail and dinner.

For old New England charm

Built in 1852, the Spring House Hotel stands as Block Island’s oldest and largest hotel. Centuries have passed since the Spring House Hotel welcomed its first guests, but its original new England charm remains. The hotel boasts two different restaurants and a coffee bar. The Main Restaurant offers an elegant selection of prime meets and local fish with seating on the hotel’s wraparound veranda or inside Victoria’s Parlor. The Barn is one of Block Island’s most unique dining experiences. With an open kitchen and a wood-fired grill, the Barn is a true culinary delight. For the best sandwich on the island

Three Sisters is a quaint roadside sandwich shop owned by, you guessed it, three sisters. This charming cottage sandwich shop serves decadent sandwiches from their adorable restaurant with yellow trim windows and decorative flow pots. With their tasty salads and sandwiches, Three Sisters have garnered quite the following on the island and often sell out by the afternoon.

For coffee and a healthy bite

Poor People’s Pub is not your typical pub serving typical pub fare. Poor People’s is home to some of the best food on the island. Popular menu items include burgers, BBQ, local seafood, and pizza.
