Once a mining town, Breckenridge, Colorado, is now a world-class ski destination. However, beyond the slopes in the wintertime, this town also attracts adventurers in the summer months with its hiking, fishing, whitewater rafting, kayaking and more. Whatever your preferred flavor of adventure, though, you’re bound to get hungry while exploring Breckenridge. When you do, here are six great spots to fuel up.
Breckfast — and, yes, that’s how it’s really spelled — is your place to go for delicious morning eats and one of the earliest happy hours in the area. Breakfast is served all day long, too, so you can chow down no matter what time you wake up. Expect breakfast classics like egg sandwiches and breakfast burritos, all in heaping servings that are sure to provide you with enough rib-sticking goodness to last through a day on the slopes or a day trekking through the peaks.

To satisfy your sweet tooth, go nowhere other than Higgles Ice Cream. This is more than just your neighborhood ice cream shop, though. Higgles offers artisan ice creams that are sure to delight and even makes its own vegan ice cream! Think cool and creative flavors such as huckleberry cheesecake and pineapple habanero, alongside tamer, more recognizable flavors like vanilla and strawberry.
Searching for an excellent cuppa joe? Try the espresso bar at Columbine Cafe. The breakfast and lunch spot opens early, at 7:30 a.m. The huge menu includes omelets, Eggs Benedict a variety of ways, pancakes and waffles and more. They’re even serving up southern-style biscuits and gravy with grits.
Crepes? In Colorado? It’s not as crazy as you think. This restaurant serves sweet and savory crepes in multiple locations around the region. Find the eatery nearest you and stop in for savory specialties like the pizza crepe, with mozzarella, marinara, red pepper, garlic and parmigiana, or a sweet specialty, like the s’mores crepe with milk chocolate chips, graham crackers and marshmallows.

For dinner and drinks in a seriously atmospheric restaurant, try The Gold Pan Saloon, a historic spot established in 1879. With all the fun of an old-time-y mountain mining town saloon, plus delicious eats from the modern era, it’s easy to see why this restaurant has lasted as long as it has. Enjoy cocktails and wine, plus a small menu of upscale bar food, such as the cabra burger, topped with pulled goat and crumbled goat cheese, or the Hoosier Pass chicken sandwich, topped with roasted peppers, mozzarella, basil pesto, balsamic and greens.
