Fall

WaterFire is a unique event that takes place on the city’s three rivers on select evenings from September to November. Hundreds of bonfires are lit on the water, creating a magical atmosphere that’s perfect for a romantic evening out or a fun night with friends.

The Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular is a family-friendly event takes place at the Roger Williams Park Zoo and features over 5,000 intricately carved pumpkins on display. The theme changes each year, and there are often additional activities like hayrides and seasonal treats to enjoy.

Don’t forget about the Providence Monster Dash! This is a Halloween-themed 5K race that takes place in downtown Providence. Participants are encouraged to dress up in costumes and prizes are awarded for the best costumes.


Winter

The holiday season in Providence is full of festive lights, ice skating, and holiday markets. One of the most popular things to do is go to the Providence Rink at BankNewport City Center, which is open from late November through early March. This outdoor ice skating rink features skate rentals, a warming tent, and hot cocoa.

Another winter event that is popular in Providence is the Christmas at the Newport Mansions, which takes place in nearby Newport, Rhode Island. This event features several historic mansions that are decorated for the holiday season, offering visitors a glimpse into the opulent lifestyles of the wealthy during the Gilded Age.

Spring

Spring is a time of renewal and growth in Providence, and the city comes alive with a variety of seasonal events. Here are a few that you might want to check out:

The Rhode Island Spring Flower & Garden Show is an annual event takes place in February and features stunning floral displays, garden exhibits, and workshops on everything from floral design to sustainable gardening practices.

The Gaspee Days Parade takes place in June and commemorates the burning of the British ship HMS Gaspee in 1772. The day includes a parade, reenactments, and plenty of food and drink vendors.

WaterFire also makes a return in the spring, with several dates in May and June. It’s a great way to enjoy the warmer weather and experience the magic of the city’s waterways.


Summer

Summer in Providence is all about enjoying the great outdoors and soaking up the city’s lively arts and culture scene. Here are a few events to put on your summer calendar:

Rhode Island International Film Festival: This week-long festival takes place in August and features independent films from around the world. There are also workshops, panel discussions, and opportunities to meet filmmakers and actors.

Another great is event is Providence Restaurant Weeks, where participating restaurants offer special prix-fixe menus at discounted prices. It’s a great opportunity to try out new restaurants and enjoy some delicious food.
