Local’s Corner: Mount Pleasant, SC Best Kept Secrets

Hi everyone! It’s time for another edition of The Local’s Corner.

Most Discovery Map franchise owners live and work in their map territories. The ones that do not spend significant time in those territories (think vacation home, seasonal visits). As a result, they’re experts in all things local.

We asked Katie Finch from Discovery Map of Mount Pleasant, SC about some of her favorite local spots. Read on for an informed local’s perspective!

What are the best kept secrets, things to do off the beaten path in Mount Pleasant?

Mount Pleasant, Isle of Palms, and Sullivan’s Island are filled with unique places to dine, shop, and explore! With that in mind, I’m sharing a few of my favorite places!

To do: If your party is looking for somewhere to spend a few hours outdoors that isn’t the beach, Palmetto Islands County Park is just the spot. There’s plenty for the kids to do including our favorite park, Big Toy and a seasonal waterpark! With kayaking, fishing, volleyball, trail riding, and plenty of nature trails, you will feel like you’ve escaped Mount Pleasant. Other crowd favorites are Boone Hall and Patriots Point.

To shop: If you are looking for a quintessential Lowcountry gift, Oyster Candle Company off Coleman Blvd is the ultimate shopping experience. Of course, you’ll have to grab a hand-poured candle (my favorite would have to be either Sea Salt & Palmetto or Sea La Vie but I never leave without a seasonal scent if they are available), but they also offer a wide variety of local goods perfect for a souvenir or gift. If you are traveling and looking for a locally owned women’s boutique, you’ll have to stop by either Mulberry and King, Subtle and Sass, or Lizard Thicket depending on what part of town you are staying. Hoping to grab some cute things for the kids? Be sure to check out Shrimp & Grits, Ragamuffin, and Little Palmetto Pearl. Need a one-stop shop? Head over to Palmetto Moon…they have everything you need for the entire family.

Where is the best breakfast/brunch?

We love Page’s Okra, Vicious Biscuit, and Owlbear Cafe.

What are the best places to hear music?

If you’re looking for live music, check out The Windjammer and Mainland Container. If you’re hoping to catch a bigger show, Credit One Stadium is nearby.
