The Kona Kat Café is the first and only cat café on the Big Island of Hawai’i.
For many, the first question, what is a Cat Cafe? Their Kona Kat Café is a cozy, cool, and comfortable place with a “catio” (cat patio) that's not just for cats, but a positive, relaxing space for cat and animal lovers too. It also provides a unique public foster space for cat adoptions.

The Kona Kat Café opened in November 2023 in the beautiful seaside village of Kailua-Kona on the Big Island of Hawai’i. All of our kittens & cats come from rescue organizations on the Big Island and are available for adoption.   Cats and humans share a remarkable bond that extends beyond mere companionship; it's a profound therapeutic relationship. Cats, with their gentle purring and soothing presence, have an innate ability to provide comfort and reduce stress for their human counterparts. Their soft fur, warm bodies, and affectionate nuzzles can lower blood pressure and release oxytocin, the "feel-good" hormone. This calming effect can be especially beneficial in times of distress or when facing life's challenges. Likewise, humans offer cats love, care, and a secure home, fostering trust and emotional well-being for these independent felines. This reciprocal connection creates a harmonious healing dynamic, where both cats and humans find solace, companionship, and a sanctuary from the demands of the world, ultimately promoting mental and emotional well-being for all involved.   They invite you to take the opportunity to unplug, relax and experience the Kona Kat Cafe, where the simple act of connecting with our cats & kittens can be an incredibly meditative and transformative experience, grounding you in the moment and offering a brief escape from the constant demands of a fast-paced life, and with a little luck, the opportunity to find a furry friend for life. They hope to see you soon, Aloha.
