About Steve Viega Woodworks

My woodworking career truly began at a young age. I brought home a 7th grade shop class project, a corner shelf made of pine. This corner shelf still hangs in my parents living room today. Even at that age, I realized my interest in woodworking was somehow connected to my love for the outdoors, especially for trees. In time, that fascination led me to a degree in forestry from Paul Smith’s College of Arts and Sciences in the Adirondack Mountains of New York.

After graduation, I moved to Maine and began working in the building trades as a carpenter. It was there that I discovered my knack for fine woodwork. This ability and a desire for quality provided a foundation for some wonderful positions, first as a finish carpenter and cabinet maker, then as First Mate/Ships Carpenter on a schooner. From there, I worked as a joiner with the famous Ellis Boat company on Mount Desert Island, building the interiors and other fine wood products for their lobster style yachts. Life’s changes led me to a nearly five year position as a boat builder/joiner with another famous boat building company, Hodgdon Yachts of East Boothbay. This is where world class wooden yachts are built and where my experience multiplied tremendously as a woodworker.

My love for wood, working with my hands and a keen sense for detail have enabled me to provide clients with heirloom quality, one of a kind products for over 38 years.
