Mission Statement

Helping Cape Codders cultivate healthy pets, enviable landscapes and beautiful homes. We treat everyone like a member of the family, including the four-legged ones, delivering a superior shopping experience for every customer and a deeply-rooted commitment to our community.

Agway of Cape Cod is a third generation, family run business with locations in Dennis, Chatham and Orleans. Owned and operated by the Wile Family of Brewster, the business is celebrating 30 years this year, in 2023! However, the roots trace back much further.

The business was born in the 1960’s in Northboro, Massachusetts, when Roger Wile, a poultry and cattle farmer, opened our family’s first farm and feed store. That original Agway store quickly became an iconic landmark in Northboro due to the enormous rooster statue that graced the parking lot. The famous fixture still remains today at 411 West Main Street.

The store was eventually passed down to son Peter and his wife Susan, who in 1993 relocated to Cape Cod and opened our first Agway of Cape Cod location Orleans. They soon expanded with the opening of stores in Chatham and Dennis, which today stands as the flagship location and company headquarters.

The family roots that were instilled by Roger in the 60’s have remained our driving principles. Peter and Susan’s son Josh started his career early by loading cars with soils and mulch after school. Daughter Jessica’s first job was deadheading geraniums in the nursery. Both children went on to larger roles, each working their way up the ranks and filling just about every position — from warehouse assistant to cashier to store manager — along the way. In 2017, they officially assumed ownership roles, marking the 3rd generation of family tenure.

Today, Agway of Cape Cod’s three stores employ more than 100 employees during the peak season. We are committed to the principles of providing meaningful employment to Cape Codders, investing in employee growth, and cultivating a positive workplace culture. We take great pride in the continued advancement and long-time retention of so many employees.

Equally important is our investment in the local community. Agway supports dozens of local non-profit organizations annually, including the Animal Rescue League of Boston’s Cape Cod Branch, the MSPCA in Centerville, the Orleans Pond Coalition, Latham Centers and local gardening clubs, to name just a few. We are also active members of the Orleans, Dennis, Chatham, Brewster, Harwich, Eastham and Cape Cod Chambers of Commerce. As a small business on Cape Cod, we know the value of shopping small and supporting locals.

In 2016, we officially launched The Agway of Cape Cod Charitable Foundation through which we continue our philanthropic initiatives. Today, the Foundation’s largest, signature fundraiser is the Paw Palooza dog festival. Launched in 2016, the two-day event has cemented itself as the region’s largest dog festival. In its first three years, it has raised more than $110,000 for local animal welfare organizations.

At Agway of Cape Cod, we have established a tradition of providing customers and the Cape Cod community with exceptional customer service, a neighborly approach and a passion for giving back to the community. We look forward to continuing that tradition for years to come.
