The Black Dog
The Black Dog brand was born out of Sailing Captain Robert Douglas’s love for the sea, his Martha’s Vinyard home…and of course his canine companion, “Black Dog.” He opened The Black Dog Tavern in 1971. Years later, the iconic Black Dog logo has become famous world-wide and the Black Dog collection has grown to include the highest quality apparel & casualwear, accessories, dog gear and gifts for the home. The Portsmouth store has been open since 2020, lead by GM Rebecca Koske, who is a Tall Ship Sailor in her own right. In fact, Black Dog owns two Tall Ships, Shenandoah & Alabama. The store participates in regular community initiatives including raising funds for service dog training and blankets for shelter dogs.
